The Myers Cocktail: History, Ingredients, and What to Expect

If you’ve spent any time looking into IV therapy, you’ve run into the name “Myers Cocktail.” Here’s where it came from, what’s in it, and what it can realistically do.
Where Did the Myers Cocktail Come From?
The Myers Cocktail is named after Dr. John Myers, a Baltimore physician who began using IV vitamin and mineral blends in the 1970s. After his death, Dr. Alan Gaby, a colleague who had used the formula extensively, documented and refined it in a widely cited case series, which is why you’ll sometimes see it called the “modified Myers’ cocktail.” The original formulation centered on magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, and vitamin C.
What’s in our Myers Bag?
Our version isn’t an exact copy of the original 1970s formula, it’s built on the same core idea but updated with a few modern additions. Here’s exactly what’s in it:
- B12: supports energy and nervous system function
- B-Complex: the broader family of B vitamins involved in converting food into usable energy
- Vitamin C: an antioxidant that also supports immune function
- Magnesium: involved in muscle relaxation and hundreds of processes in the body
- Glutathione: an antioxidant your body produces naturally, often called on for its role in detoxification
- Zinc: supports immune function and wound healing
The classic Myers formula included calcium, ours doesn’t. Instead, we’ve added glutathione and zinc, two additions that have become common in modern IV therapy for their own supporting roles.
Does It Contain Glutathione?
Yes. Glutathione is one of the six ingredients in our Myers Bag, listed above.
How Long Does a Myers Cocktail Last?
Effects vary by person, but most people report feeling the benefits, energy, hydration, an overall lift, for anywhere from a day to a few days after treatment. It’s more of a reset than a cure.
What Is It Used For?
Historically, the Myers Cocktail has been used for a wide range of complaints: fatigue, migraines, muscle spasms, seasonal allergies, and more. The clinical research on it is limited, and it hasn’t been proven to treat or cure any specific condition. People generally use it as a wellness boost rather than a medical treatment, and that’s how we’d frame it too.
